A new beginning in site?

To my countless few aficionados, greetings and not actually meant apologies for the lame pun in the title.

And now for the explanation: I’ve been deserting this blog for ages, which is nothing new in itself (actually making it all the worse), and after flirting with the idea of bringing it back to life, I’ve finally made up my mind. It’s been no long pondering & considering, but I’ve been thinking about it for quite a while now, and as I was presented with the possibility of doing something pointless and meaningless instead of studying, well I thought, what the hell!

So the Cennsor‘s back again, for the umpteenth time. Expect the same old not really high quality writing and a whole lot of cranky ranting about what I don’t like about the music I like. Oh, and delays and all that, of course.

When I made up my mind about this, I thought I’d try and finally follow a pattern when I’m choosing what to review. To bring an order to it, as it were. But then again, i’m pretty sure there’ll be lots of deviations and exceptions – pretty much what always happens to all my self-imposed rules.

Though maybe, and I’d like to stress that maybe, I’ll feel compelled to follow it a bit more strictly if I write it down here. Okay, not really; but let’s give it a try anyway. So, for the record: I’ll post my impressions on whatever new i listen to; new meaning I might have just heard (about) an album, though it’s already been out for decades.

Sure, it’s not like i get a new album every other day; but there’s lots I haven’t even heard once yet, and I’ll do my best to catch up on those as well.

So “sit back and relax” (that’s supposed to be a quote from Ayreon‘s Actual Fantasy) and have a nice time disagreeing with me and/or being annoyed by my writing.

Post-first publication edit: I just realised the date being displayed on top of this post might mislead you. So no, no April’s fool.

Unrequested apologies and half a comeback

Alright, so it’s more than half a year of inactivity. I know two questions are lingering in your minds now, the first being “why such a long break?”, and the second “but why would we care anyway?”.

As the latter’s much more of your own problem, I’ll provide you with an answer to the first dilemma. With a slight hint: yes, the first possible reason to come to your mind is the answer. The magic word being: laziness.

Along with a number of other, much less appealing to tell, reasons. But the point is, the Cennsor‘s back, like it (did I say “like”? I meant “care about”) or not.

It’s actually quite funny I gained a reader during this break. Now I do have someone I cannot disappoint.

Or, someone I can finally consciously try and disappoint. We’ll see how that goes.

Now, there’s quite a bunch of albums I’ve been thinking about writing something on for a while. I guess I’ll just pick some and actually write a few lines about them.

Of course writing this is not quite like coming back with a handful of reviews ready to be uploaded. But what can we do. So stay tuned, if you like, and together we’ll find out if I can wipe away some rust off my battered english – oh and sure, get my lazy ass to “work” back again.

The beginning, at last

What better than a southern metal guitarist’s quote to introduce this all? – Anything, you say? Well, true.

By the way, not-really-long story short: this blog is intended to be a place where I review some of my albums – those I like the most, those I can’t stand, anyway those I just feel like writing something about. So, don’t expect to find anything of the so-called “objective” kind here. I’d rather leave the claim for objectivity to those who write reviews for a living. And to the experts, of course.

you know, those bragging about their mastery of whatever subject all the time.

i do not understand the faintest thing about music; i am by no means entitled to write about it, atleast no more than your average passionate listener. so don’t either expect to find anything accurate here, atleast not music-wise. the only thing i can be accurate about are my own tastes. and i’m not even sure i WANT to be accurate, then.

so now with THE question: why to write, and why to read this? as to the first, i may as well just say i simply like to do it, no matter whether someone reads me or not. and that would not be true. so as a honest answer, i’m doing it for those who are curious enough about music, to bother reading a “review” from time to time. getting music without the slighest criterion of choice could sure be fun, but sometimes you might just want to, say, follow some kind of path in doing it.

so that’s what this blog is meant for. to provide some sort of guidelines to those who are in search for something new to listen to, and don’t want to end up badly disappointed for having wasted money purchasing (or, time downloading – well, morals ain’t the cennsor’s primary concern) music they eventually don’t like.

so, what else? it should be clear enough by now that this blog is only meant to contain my own opinions. what i’m going to write here, is nothing but what I think about music. i’m saying this only to prevent some kind of naive disappointment. made that clear, comments are there for a reason. i’d obviously appreciate some feedback. and i mean, that of the intelligent kind. i know it’s harder, folks, but it happens to be more useful.

thank you, and enjoy the approaching rambling.
